WORSHIPPING WEALTH
“He that truteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch”
- Proverbs 11:28
Today, many are
living in a society flooded with goods and gadgets but they fail to
reflect on the dangers that await them if they put their trust in
certain riches. Several years ago, six armed gunmen broke into a bank
and stole valuables worth more than $7 million. One lady, whose
jewellery was appraised at $500,000, wailed, "Everything I had was in
there. My whole life was in that bank."
Don’t put your love and trust in earthly things, because they will cause
you much physical and mental suffering. Some youths take the foolish
risk of joining bad gangs in order to get rich. Some of them die in
burning houses or get killed because they stubbornly resist armed
robbers. Apparently, such youths feel that without their material
possessions, life is worthless. Others have been thrown into agonising
despair, even to the point of suicide, when forced to part with their
wealth. Stop worshipping material things and worship only God.
Challenge: Putting your whole life in material things is dangerous.
Prayer: God, take my attention away from the vain things of this world.
Quote: Worship only God
Futher Reading: Luke 12:20, 21.
