MISPLACED CONFIDENCE

“A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil; but the fool rageth, and is confident”
- Proverbs 14:16

Charles I. (not real name) was a very intelligent science student, who went into examination hall so confident that he would not only make all his papers but also obtain very good grades. He sounded so sure of distinction in all his five subjects, and even boasted so to his classmates, especially those he considered less-intelligent. He was writing the Advanced Level GCE. But when the results were released, he failed in all five subjects. Because of his overconfidence and pride, he did not care to pray, and his bad results almost pushed him to committing suicide, if not for the timely intervention of his friends. Avoid overconfidence in life, and simply keep praying and trusting God, for with Him all things are possible. Misplaced confidence leads to pride, which goes before destruction. According to International Health Awareness Centre, half of all failures happen to youths who are intelligent and boast they can. Today’s text teaches you to be wise and avoid overconfidence. Always have confidence in God.
Challenge: O Lord, take away any overconfidence from me.
Prayer: When you are too confident, you forget seeking God.
Quote: Avoid self-overconfidence
Futher Reading: Proverbs16:18.
